What else is there to do when the weather is so miserable out? Go and look for a Gruffalo!
For us this was a perfect day out in miserable weather, its fitting with the Gruffalo vibe and there is plenty of shelter under trees and you can park super close. So get your rain coat and wellies on and head to the deep dark woods.
There are a few of these around and locations can be found here www.forestryengland.uk
We headed to Horsenden hill as it was our closest one. We used this address for directions Horsenden Ln N, Perivale, Horsenden, Greenford UB6 7QH and parked on a side street nearby. There is easily accessible free parking around the forest on the residential streets. There is a car park but is currently shut due to the pandemic.
We headed into the woods and found it quite easy to manage with the tandem buggy on the path. it did get tough at times but on the plus side i feel like i got a full body work out!
Don’t underestimate how long you will spend in the woods as we was there for hours as there are plenty of trees and logs around to climb! The views at the top are incredible, Ollie was so blown away he asked to take pictures! They have park benches so you can sit and enjoy lunch in a lovely spot.
The trail is easy to find and easy enough to spot the characters. Eren actually spotted the first one (the owl) on the left of the path and directed us to it!
The boys had so much fun looking for the characters and I recommend reading the book along the way so it feels like more of an adventure.
This is a great social distancing activity as even though there was just a few more visitors when we went there is plenty of open space if it does get busier. I think you could manage completing the trail in around half an hour but for us it took much longer as Eren is recently walking and took a bit longer in his welly’s and they had so much fun playing in between character finding.
We came home and enjoyed a hot chocolate after, there are other trails we are keen to go on such as the ZOG , the stick man and Winnie the Pooh trail.
